PANIS ANGELICUS (FR)

2009 Bay Gelding
By Panis (USA) ex Pyu (Ger) (Surumu (Ger))
Breeder: E Bec De La Motte & Scuderia Del Bargello

A tall and robust son of the French sire Panis (14% strike-rate with National Hunt colts/geldings in France), Panis Angelicus is a tough, consistent individual who won on his most recent outing, over 2 miles on the flat at Chantilly at the end of October. The form has been franked in no uncertain terms since, with the third home bolting up in a Listed race at Saint-Cloud on his next start.

Rated 73 on the level, he has won over €160,000 in prize-money in his career to date and having shown an abundance of stamina on the flat, he now looks ready for further success over jumps, having both the size and scope to progress well in the national hunt sphere. In addition, he is a half-brother to Blackwell Synergy, a 5 time winner over jumps with a rating as high as 134 and he ran to a Racing Post Rating of 138 when winning a 17 runner handicap hurdle in Ireland last year.

He is also a half-brother to the Listed winner Oekaki who won a total of 4 races on the flat and his dam is a half-sister to the smart German middle-distance performer Panthere, so it is a really tough winning pedigree. Combined with his strong form in France with 6 wins to date over staying trips, he looks ideal for this coming summer on good ground and as he has proven form to win novice hurdles and could well upgrade to a very useful handicap hurdler.
